SQL SERVER HIGH AVAILIBILITY

Reduce the stress on your production environment by allowing your users to run their reports against a replicated copy of your database and allowing designers to put the data where it’s needed.

Why use Microsoft SQL Server Replication?
A distributed data system is one in which the storage and processing of data are distributed across multiple physical systems. This allows the system to more robustly handle errors, bottlenecks, data loss, and remain more generally stable.
If your company handles a lot of data, runs a lot of hosted database programs, runs simultaneous functions, or a combination of all three, it is likely that you would benefit from replication. Microsoft SQL Server replication creates more fault tolerance and keeps the system running even if multiple processing errors or failures occur.

Snapshot Replication
In Snapshot replication an entire copy of the data to be replicated is moved to the target server. This is a good choice for smaller databases where it is acceptable for the data to be perhaps a day old. Since Snapshot replication is copying entire tables it doesn’t need to have primary keys on tables. When it’s impossible to modify table structures Snapshot replication may be the best way to replicate.

Transactional Replication
Typically used in larger databases, this method only updates changes to data, rather than replicating it entirely every time there is an update. It is a good choice when you want to move functions (such as reporting) off the primary server, but still need real-time data.

Transactional Replication with updatable subscriptions
This is similar to Transactional Replication but updates are allowed to subscribe. This may be an alternative to Merge Replication in some cases. Cloud 9 can help you determine if this type of replication would work for your organization.

Merge Replication
Merge Replication allows users to “merge” data back onto the primary server. This is commonly used in applications where someone, perhaps a Sales representative, needs to download information, make updates to that information while disconnected from the primary database, then apply updates when reconnected.

SQL SERVER ALWAYSON

AlwaysOn is a technology with features to ensure High Availability. AlwaysOn also offers options for Disaster Recovery and balancing the production workload by offsetting reports and backups to a secondary node.

Take your server to the next level with AlwaysOn availability.
AlwaysOn is a set of technology features that prevent a SQL Server from losing data or functionality. Using a more secure form of data mirroring called Clustering, AlwaysOn manages to maintain a high data failover rate while using less data storage space than traditional mirroring. AlwaysOn is a two-in-one solution that reduces downtime while doubling as a disaster recovery buffer.
Many databases use mirroring to create redundancy in their data sets. This redundancy can prevent database errors from getting out of hand, but they are never 100% effective (nothing is). AlwaysOn is a set of features Microsoft implemented into the SQL Server 2012 release.

AlwaysOn Availability Groups:
Availability Groups build upon database mirroring features. Availability groups improve control over when failover occurs and allow groups of databases to fail as a unit rather than at differing points. This means even catastrophic failures can be fixed at one point instead of several, meaning the system as a whole is more recoverable.

Windows Server Failover Clustering:
The aforementioned Availability Groups take advantage of Windows Server Failover clustering, which solves two big problems: clustering SQL Server over sub-nets and it circumvents the bottlenecks of shared storage. It also allows for additional layers of storage protection to be added!

Ultimately, if you’re looking for a straightforward, reliable, and trustworthy disaster recovery/prevention technology, AlwaysOn is available for any SQL Server 2012 or later. Cloud 9 will partner with you to fully implement a SQL Server Always On solution that meets your staff, budget, and data size needs, all with minimal downtime.
